Doru and the Bowl Made with Patience
At the edge of the forest, in a workshop with low shelves and round windows, Doru tied his apron each morning and placed a lump of clay on his wheel. The badger potter had strong paws, yet worked with a gentleness that surprised everyone. Small, patient movements became bowls for shared meals and vessels for flowers gathered along the path.
One day, an apprentice wanted to make the finest pot in the forest on his very first try. He spun the wheel too fast, pressed too hard, and the clay slumped to one side. Doru did not take the work from his paws. He pulled up a chair and said, “Let’s try again. The clay has time, and we can give it patience.”
They started over. The pot came out slightly crooked, with a fingerprint near its rim, but the apprentice gazed at it as though it were a treasure. Doru placed it on the front shelf: the best spot belonged to the courage to learn, not to perfection.
Ever since, the badger has kept a simple bowl close, held in both paws, to remember that day. To him, every object carries the story of someone who took the time to create it.
