The Story
In a harbour where boats returned each evening with stories from the open sea, Paco was the first onto the jetty and the last to leave. The pelican in the red coat always kept his little medical bag close. He knew every fisher, every travelling bird and every board that creaked beneath their feet.
One misty morning, a young gull arrived alone on the quay, tired and frightened. Paco sat beside him, listened and stayed until his family's call rose from among the masts. Before taking flight, the little gull asked what precious thing Paco carried in his bag that always helped everyone feel calm.
Paco smiled. “Not all help fits inside a bag. Sometimes you simply stay beside someone until they are no longer afraid.”
Ever since, when the lighthouse shines over the harbour, travellers look for a little splash of red on the jetty. They know Paco is there, and that no one has to face a difficult day alone.
